CARD INTEGRATION - BMO FINANCIAL GROUP

One of the largest financial institutions in Canada, established in 1817, BMO® Financial Group is highly diversified and works with millions of personal, commercial, corporate and institutional customers through its operating groups: Personal and Commercial Banking Canada, Personal and Commercial Banking U.S., Private Client Group and BMO Capital Markets.

The Project:

In late 2009 BMO purchased the North American portfolio of Diners Club International.  At around the same time, the bank made the strategic decision to replace their internally developed Credit Card Management system with a more modern, feature rich and robust service offered by Total Systems (TSYS).  These two programs merged when BMO decided to use the diners integration as the pilot program for the TSYS conversion.

To support a new credit card processing initiative, BMO required a new Data Warehouse and Data Marts able to integrate data from the credit card processing services, and provide this data to downstream users for reporting and complex analytics.  The data to be provided was significantly richer and, effectively leveraged, would enable BMO to make better decisions to more effectively create and promote new products and services to its customers. The main challenge was the format of the new data, file sizes and data volumes, which were significant in relation to the data being replaced.

A globally resourced project team with onshore experts and offshore development capability utilized leading data integration tools developed by Ab initio to deliver the required enhanced functionality on schedule. Users are now able to utilize the enhanced data, and the solution is expected to be extended to other card products.
